The support of the 3D engine “BS Contact” cross platform with the operation system from Google gained positive feedback at the Tech Talk of Siggraph in Vancouver / Bitmanagement increased its 3D content-production.
Based on the ZIM-InterAR project aiming the support of Bitmanagement’s 3D software technology for augmented reality applications, the company is pursuing consequently its strategy to further develop the “BS Contact” 3D engine as cross platform system for interactive 3D visualization on the Internet. A new version of BS Contact now also supports Android. Referring to this a realtime rendered 3D content has been demonstrated in a first version of BS Contact on Acer Iconia Tab A500 with Android operation system and Nvidia Tegra 2 Chipset. The operation system Android, developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance, supports mobile devices like mobile phones, smart phones, feature phones and tablet computers. “We gained a very positive feedback from our presentation at the Siggraph 2011, which has become even more meaningful after the breaking news that Google has acquired the cell phone section from Motorola”, explained Bitmanagement CEO, Peter Schickel.
At the 38. Siggraph in Vancouver, which is by its own information the largest conference and exhibition for computer-graphics and man-computer interaction, and which by the way happened this year for the very first time outside the USA, Bitmanagement could present its BS Contact as a cross browser platform. This software runs on each established operation systems like Windows, Linux, Mac and iOS from Apple; and henceforth on Android too. “In the increasing mobile communication world we made another important step to establish the interactive cross browsing 3D visualization also in modern mobile devices”, commented Peter Schickel. The InterAR project with the scope of the ZIM program (Central Innovation Program) is sponsored by the German Ministry of Economic and Technology according to a decision of the German Bundestag.
Bitmanagement also has showcased in Vancouver as another improvement content projects for geo referenced interactive 3D applications created by a content team covering altogether 40 German and Off Shore 3D artists. For this reason Bitmanagement is in the position to offer realtime and online capable 3D content to real estate customers, architects, as well as to urban and public institutions. This way the company can additionally increase its presence in each of the respective markets.
At the ACM Carto BOF, the Geo Forum of the Siggraph, Peter Schickel also informed about the project status of the OGC 3D Pie project referring to BS Contact and the city portal visitcity. The Carto BOF addresses professional customers of geo referenced applications. The OGC project is targeted on establishing a uniform infrastructure for portrayal of Geo data by means of testing the interoperability of standardized viewer technologies.
