An auto-stereoscopic display is a screen that can display 3D content such as pictures, video films or 3D models with a special depth effect. This depth effect is also known as immersive effect. Objects seem to move out of the screen or go deeply into the screen just like looking through a window in the real world. To create this impression the screen hardware and software projects two images of an object towards the human eye. These two images are displayed with a slight time shift for the left as well as the right eye. Due to the different angle of the display and the slight time shift the human brain computes the impression of depth like in real life.
Auto-stereoscopic 3D presentations are used for advertising and marketing purposes as well as scientific tasks. For the consumer market the display manufacturers offer so called multi-user displays that allow many people at once to view the effect and provide scientists with so called single user displays that focus just on one person. A multi-user display for several people “navigates” 2 pictures to an appropriate position of the eyes of the users from 6 to 8 times. This solution gives more moving space to a user. However, the quality of the images is limited. A single user display for just one person tracks the position of the eyes of a user in order to produce a full auto-stereoscopic effect even with the movement of the user's head.
The BS Contact Stereo supports a set of immersive stereo displays (please find an assortment of displays in the latest Release Information) and BS Contact Stereo is also integrated in OEM displays.
