Bitmanagement presents the automatic generated Live 3D Avatars at the Siggraph in Los Angeles

Berg near Munich, August 9, 2012

Significant intermediate result of the EC sponsored project ‘Fine’ presented at the Siggraph / Live 3D Avatar based on video streaming will become part of interactive television /Siggraph 2012 with over 21 000 visitors from 83 countries and 160 exhibitors / 3D trend is still ongoing / Developers of ‘Authoring tools’ discover 3D stereoscopy as a diversification feature

On this year’s conference for computer graphics and interactive technologies - to which more than 21 000 3D artists, scientists, game experts and developers, film makers and college students came to Los Angeles from over 80 countries around the world – a special innovation was shown. The automatic construction of three-dimensional contents created from video images serves as a basis for a new type of live avatar.

The German 3D software developer Bitmanagement Software GmbH thus presented realistic video avatars that are created automatically as an important intermediate result of the EU sponsored project ‘Fine’. Within the context of this research project, the main idea focuses on the possibility to interactively incorporate the viewer into the computer or television screen, for example at a live soccer game. This way, the viewer should be able to choose individually from which viewpoint he or she wants to see such a game. Also, it should be possible to even walk around freely in the stadium or on the playing field. The application example demonstrates how soccer players are traced from 16 different cameras in the stadium and displayed as avatars in real-time and in video quality. This is an example of soccer as a scenario for the 3D television development of the future. For more information, go to:

Such an avatar solution was presented by Peter Schickel, who is president of Bitmanagement Software GmbH, at this year’s Siggraph in Los Angeles. The remarkable thing about this though is that it deals with a new type of avatar. It is – compared to its computer-generated forerunner – more realistic and moves more naturally.

Next to the research part of 3D software development, Bitmanagement also focuses on the construction of high-defined 3D models of soccer stadiums.

On top of that, this congress clearly showed that the topic of 3D generally further increased in its acceptance. Not only was demonstrated that increasingly more 2D digital plans are transformed into 3D plans, whereas especially the interest of major enterprises in 3D applications is unmistakably larger, but also a rising interest in stereoscopic 3D application was notable. Here, the advantage of the diversification is mostly the significant part. Generally, faster networks and faster computers will dominate the Siggraph environment, but currently, the fact that the integration of 3D technology in ‘WebGL’ cannot keep up with its necessary acceleration, this process is slowed down.

However, Peter Schickel interprets the Siggraph as predominantly positive due to the fact that technology fields such as the Interactcive 3D Web – an area in which Bitmanagement can offer a tested viewer for years now – are becoming more and more popular. But also the increase of softwares with platforms demonstrated that the software developer from Germany through the company’s strategy to continually adapt its viewer-portfolio specifically to platforms and browser comprehensive applications can deliver this ‘state of the art’ technology.

Peter Schickel presented also current projects from German leading customers.

Bitmanagement is a provider of multimedia software with a focus on online interactive 3D visualization. The multimedia technology for 2D/3D, audio and video is real-time and Internet-ready. Based on the ISOstandard formats VRML/X3D, CityGML and COLLADA, and Java, it allows an Interactive visualization of concepts and products.

Bitmanagement develops and markets a product portfolio of visualization software, which is composed of visualization software (BS Contact VRML / X3D, MPEG-4, Geo, Stereo and Mobile), documentation (BS SDK Package) for animation and different programming tools up to Workflow optimization such as BS Encrypt.

Besides software development the company specializes on content production. The focus is here on creation of interactive online capable 3D models - mainly high resolution city models – based on a cost efficient offshore team of 3D artists.

Bitmanagement was founded in 2002 by three former employees of the Blaxxun Interactive AG, Munich. The company achieved sales growth and positive results in 2011 and is "cash flow positive" since its founding.

Bitmanagement is a board member of the "Web3D Consortium" (USA), which is responsible for the standardization and dissemination of 3D ISO standards for the Internet. Bitmanagement is also simultaneously a member of the" 3D Consortium "for the dissemination of stereoscopic visualization.
